Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  How do I purchase a Great Lakes Service Contract?

A.  You can only purchase a Great Lakes Warranty through one of our authorized dealerships.  For the name and number of a dealership in your area, call Great Lakes at 1-888-740-7111.

Q.  I just bought a car and a service contract.  How do I know if it is in effect?

A.  Your warranty goes into effect when we approve the application from the dealership.  Do not assume your contract has been activated until you receive an acknowledgement letter from Great Lakes Warranty.  If you do not hear from us within 20 days, please call 1-888-740-7111 or e-mail us at customerservice@greatlakeswarranty.com.

Q.  My dealer told me I would receive a card with all my service contract information on it.  When can I expect to receive my card?

A.  There is no card.  At the dealership you will receive a (Yellow) copy of your service contract application. This is your copy with all the details of coverage and procedures to follow if ever you need to file a claim. Great Lakes Warranty Corporation, will mail you an acknowledgment of acceptance of your service contract once we receive the original paperwork from your dealer. If you never received this copy, or if you do not receive your acknowledgment letter from us in twenty days from the date you purchased your vehicle, please call 1-888-740-7111, or e-mail us at customerservice@greatlakeswarranty.com.

Q.  Is my vehicle covered bumper-to-bumper?

A.  Great Lakes does not provide bumper-to-bumper coverage.  We only cover the items listed on your Service Contract.

Q.  I think my car is broken.  Where should I take it?

A.  You can take your vehicle to any repair facility of your choice.

Q.  How do I get my car repaired?

A.  First, take it to a repair facility.  Have the repair facility call Great Lakes Warranty at 1-888-740-7111.  The repair facility and Great Lakes will determine what repairs your vehicle needs and then Great Lakes will issue a claim number so they can fix your vehicle.

Q.  Do I have to pay the repair facility?

A. As long as your repair facility accepts payment from Great Lakes Warranty, at your request we will pay the repair facility. The only things you will be responsible for are sales tax, and your deductible if applicable.

Q.  What if the repair facility tells me I have to pay the bill out of my own pocket?

A.  If for some reason the repair facility wants direct payment from you, call us for authorization at 1-888-740-7111, and we will mail you a check for the approved amount.

Q.  What if I get my car repaired without getting a claim number?

A.  You should never have any work done before a claim number is issued.  Great Lakes Warranty will not pay for any repairs done without a claim number.  Remember getting a claim number takes just a phone call.

Q.  Do I have a deductible and how much is it?

A.  Most of our warranties have a $100 deductible per occurrence per category.  Please check your copy of the Service Contract or call us at 1-888-740-7111.

Q.  How do I get a rental car while my vehicle is being repaired?

A.  Great Lakes provides a variety of car rental coverage. Please read your service contract for the specific coverage you have covered by your contract.

Q.  How do I cancel my warranty?

A.  There is no credit for early termination except in the case of repossession by the lien holder.  The lien holder will be refunded a prorated amount minus any claims paid and a service charge.

Q.  Can I get my car fixed after hours and on the weekends?

A.  If you have to have repair work done and no one is in the office to assist you, leave a message stating your problem and your telephone number.  Someone will get back to you a quickly as possible.  While waiting to hear from us, do not authorize the repair facility to begin the repairs.  Remember we will not pay for any repair without a claim number.

Our Claims office hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm EST  Monday-Friday
